Erendis - from Unfinished Tales
Dec. 19th, 2009 10:38 amHe should have wooed you to the highest cliff,
And dashed you down upon sea rocks -
It would have been kinder to your woman's heart
Than the long dead years of waiting.
Tucking this in between Books here - After reading through Tolkien's Unfinished Tales I found I was struck by the tragedy of Erendis and the way her love was slowly twisted by neglect and abandonment. This poem was the result - I'm tagging it for 'romance' as well as angst, because that is what it was, before it all turned in upon itself.
Erendis
( The salt of your tears only reminded him of the waves )
And dashed you down upon sea rocks -
It would have been kinder to your woman's heart
Than the long dead years of waiting.
