The results of a meme that has you pick five fandoms and assigns five random lines of poetry for the prompts. It was supposed to be 50-word snatches, but mine refused to shoehorn any smaller than standard drabble sized.

I chose All Creatures Great and Small, Doctor Who (One's era), LOTR, The Scarlet Pimpernel and Watership Down.

Title: Closing Time

Summary: The First Doctor considers how events are coming to a close with Susan.

A/N: This is a small snatch I'd written a while back and then lost in my notebook, a simple bit of introspection for the end of 'The Dalek Invasion of Earth.'

A/N: This rather odd story is the result of a holiday challenge at dw_straybunnies, as I thought it would be rather fun to see how many of the 12 prompts I could shoehorn into one tale.  This included Ace with a girl (in this case, Rani), vampires, evil giraffes, something about Welsh myths, Eleven being threatened by Care Bears, Sarah Jane and the Doctor with an octopus in the TARDIS bathtub, Two with Martha, Evelyn Smythe, Six meeting Rani, the Meddling Monk, Frobisher and it being set in an ancient Earth civilization, in this case Egypt.  Oy.  A couple of these are mere cameos, but they’re all in there.  Really.

Title: The Giraffe Convolution of Doom

Summary: There are vampire giraffes reported at the London Zoo. The Doctor must do something about that, seeing as he’s been there before.

A small round of drabbling going by as I've revisited a favorite era with a friend who had never seen them before. First a bit of humor regarding the ridiculousness of some of the creatures encountered, then one nod for lost_spook's favorite pair and two for Three and Sarah Jane.

She was a little older and a little wiser in what risks she was willing to take with her life, or with her heart. He was a little older and wiser himself, and much in need of someone who could be there to lift his spirits, to bring him back to a joy of living, exploring.

And what a joy it had been, once more. How well they’d rediscovered now that the sweet spark had not been extinguished by the years. Together they were healed and renewed before a kaleidoscopic universe.

Besides, Jo had always loved the feel of velvet.

The Doctor gaped. “Romana, you can’t keep changing bodies like that. It’s disturbing. It upsets the balance of the cosmos, confuses the fashion world. Wig-makers and plastic surgeons everywhere’ll be in revolt. The ginger hair is especially atrocious and whatever were you thinking deciding on that hideous collar?”

She raised her chin. “How dare you address me thus, sir?”

“Oh come, Romana. You don’t have to add the snotty, overbearing persona, I mean, just because you’ve made a horrible, immature decision and looked like Queen Elizabeth…” Someone small and blonde tugged at his sleeve.

“Doctor.”

“What, Romana?”

“I’m over here.”

One thing I have found is DW does not lend itself to poetry, not really. It is action and dialogue and intrigue, entertainment and adventure, but not really poetry, which is why this one surprised me when it rather suddenly welled up from a sort of poetic dormancy for the genre. But then, it is for a very special person.

When infiniteviking brought up a challenge to take a randomly generated title and add 'IN SPAAAACE' to it then write a drabble I had to at least give it a try. The end result is longer than a drabble, but was good light fun.

For curuchamion, whose comment regarding her icon of Three with a blue penguin 'hat' on his head was that he was much more patient about having a penguin on his head than the Brigadier would be. I took this for a (tiny) writing challenge.

Egging On (a double-drabble)

“You’d not be pecked so much if you’d be quiet,” the Doctor rebuked mildly.

“You truly expect me to be quiet when there’s a penguin sitting on my head?” the Brigadier groused – again.

“If you want to be warm, yes.” The Doctor said softly. He looked up at the sky, taking care not to tip his own off. “As I said, they’re the only heat source we’ll find here. Just be glad their instinct to warm anything egg-shaped is working.”

The Brigadier shifted where he was hunkered in the snow, two large sleepy penguins against his back, and rolled an eye up at his unusual headgear. It clicked, honked and settled down over him again. “I’m not egg-shaped and when are those infernal snowmobiles going to get here? Ow. Ow!”

The Doctor smiled. Nearly all had now moved over to him, as he only occasionally made little penguin noises at them.

“This is ridiculous!” the Brigadier grumbled. “Ow!” His penguin, apparently just as fed up with it as he was, jumped off, shook its head at him and waddled away, the other two following. They added to the penguins circled around the Doctor, who watched him shiver and smirked.

A/N: Poor old Mike. Ever since he lost that date that Jo even dressed up for just because the Doctor abruptly swept her away to another planet, I’ve felt a little sorry for him. He never stood a chance. I blame this ficlet on lost_spook who made me go look at my plot-bunnies and hence rediscover this one.
